The need for a formal road map is applicable mainly for large Projects for large end-user organizations. However, a road map can be a good starting point when planning many systems or applications that will be integrated into an enterprise-scale environment.
The primary result of a roadmap effort is a timeline of activities. The timeline includes:
•A listing of Project phases/periods that breaks the deployment of DCM into discrete manageable phases
•"Swim lanes" that identify the primary organizational entities that are critical to the Project execution. These typically include:
•Project Stakeholders
•Design / Engineering
•IT
•Sales
•Marketing
•Human Resources
•Specific activity blocks that summarize the key elements, organized according to the time and phasing
•An extensive report that provides in-depth descriptions of the activities, in addition to background information describing key Roadmap strategies.
•In addition, there may be additional documentation:
•A risk analysis and risk management strategy
•Critical path diagrams and descriptions
•Resource requirements and planning information
