Abstraction is the process of identifying common elements across a family of Designs, then extracting those elements into a common Design that is then shared with the Designs in the family.
This ensures that the common elements are not duplicated, thus reducing the time and effort to maintain these Rules. In addition, it reduces the total amount of Rules, also reducing the maintenance effort. Finally, it ensures that all the objects in the family maintain common behavior.
